Monastiraki (Little Monastery) owes its
name to the Pantanassa Church (the main church of the Great Monastery, 17th century).
Here, there is the electric railway station (19th century) and the Tzisdarakis Mosque
(1759). There are many ubiquitous tourist, ceramics, textiles and junk shops. Ifaistou
Street bustles with life and in Avissynias Square a a Sunday market has been held since
1910.
